Happy New Year Friends !!

by , in
~

As I sit here and wash down a double chocolate brownie and drink my last Starbucks Gingerbread Latte of 2009.....oh ya, looking out my window at the skyscrapers and Lake Ontario, I cannot help myself but reflect on all of the brilliant inspiration and contemplation that has occured this past year!!

The support and inspiration that I receive from all of you has been a godsend!! Whether you realize it or not, you have contributed to me being a happy happy girl today. I am in a wonderful place now and I want to continue on this path as it seems to have been the right choice.

I guess I have had my head in the sand for many years and have not appreciated the world (large or small) that surrounds me. With my decision to enter the blogging world, (actually, just so that I could participate in a swap) I have undergone a transformation that I was unaware was necessary at the time (the whole Ostrich thing), or that it would have such impact.

So as not to bore you, I will be brief. I had chosen to leave my employer this past Spring after a year as I was truly unhappy and just could not continue to be an emotional wreak and cry every darn day. I am considered to be a strong person and am always smiling and in a great mood (to the point of aggravation to others apparently). This rocked my world and I needed to get the heck away, for my own sanity as well as those around me. Anyhow, I digress.

That being said, I really am opening myself up to notice the simple pleasures that have always surrounded me that I guess I just chose to ignore.

~
Well……not anymore!!

My eyes are wide open and the possibilities are endless!!

All of you have shown me a different and much more interesting/creative world that was lost in the back of my mind somewhere. I am going to explore this side of myself and see where it takes me.

I have big plans for 2010…look out world!!!

Have a fabulous evening ringing in the New Year

2010....it's gonna be great!!!!

The first day back to work after
the Joyous Christmas Festivities!!
We had the
mildest Christmas Day in many years,
no snow, no wind, no jacket !!
~
The temperature has now dropped to
minus double digits and the snow has begun!
There is a cold weather warning in effect
for the next couple of days!!
Bundle up if you have to leave your house!
Think of me at 6:45am while you are still
cozy in your fuzzy slippers,
drinking hot chocolate,
or possibly still under your down duvet
while I am out battling the elements

I totally need to take these days

between Christmas and New Year's off next year!!

~

Have you got

exciting plans to ring in 2010?

Thanks for stopping by today!!

We went to my Sister and Brother-in-Law's home for Christmas Cheer this year!

Each year we alternate between my brothers and sisters homes, 6 in all.

We are fortunate that we all live in the same city except one sister who lives in Boston, she has 3 adorable little girlies and I think this is the first year that they have not made it to Toronto for the Holidays!!
Recently Chris moved to Miami and flew in for the festivites as well.

To follow are some random shots, you know, when you thought to pick up the camera, did not get any of the the dancing, gift exchanges, crazy time, gifts first distributed to each person, they piled and opened, wrapping everwhere...screams of...look at this...thanks you's...hysteria!!

Merry Merry Pink Saturday !!

Six more sleeps !!!!

~

For our Pink Saturday challenge this week,
our lovely Hostess
Beverly from 'How Sweet the Sound'
would like us to share
our favorite Christmas memory.
Please pop on over to
Beverly's world
and share in the many Christmas memories,
It might spark a few
that were buried
and you forgot the joy they brought.

~
December 1st each year my Mother would always bring out the Advent Calendars. We had many varieties over the years and they were filled with so many goodies. The ones that I remember most were the traditional little cardboard pictures with the numbered windows and you open them to reveal a chocolate hidden inside. This little tradition really marked the start to the Christmas season for me and I have carried this over to my family. I really want to explore my creative side in the coming years and do something with a little more umph. I thought I'd share some recent finds and I think you'll see it's not your Grandma's little cardboard advent calender anymore.

This little village Christmas scene advent calendar is the type that I grew up with and that I still buy for my children every year, they like the little chocolates inside.

This is an exact replica of the Advent House Chevy Chase had in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation...great holiday classic of Family togetherness!!!
From Christmas Advent House. They cost $595 US each, plus $89 US shipping. The house also has to be ordered a year in advance.
A bit pricy, but I still love it.

Love all the little buttons, talk about creative, the buttons countdown the days and you can leave little surprises in the pockets.

This is such a great way to use mixed media. Look closely – it’s a cookie sheet! There’s scrapbook paper, chipboard letters, ribbon, magnets. This looks like a really fun project or gift idea! From Making Memories.

By far my favorite is this license plate garland from Create and Breath that she displays on her front porch and with this chalkboard so that she can write a message to whomever comes to visit or they can leave a note that they dropped by. The plates are available at Back At Ya Babe's Etsy Store. I am so going to be collecting license plates this summer to create my own version...love it!!

~

Anyway friends, my apologies for not getting around to visit anyone or post for a whole week (where does the time go). I've been really sick and we are moving locations at work (packing, purging, taking meds urghhh) and with all of the holiday festivities...well...we all have the same story...gotta get a laptop.....you listening Santa!!

~

Have a fabulous Pink Saturday friends and if I don't see you again until the New Year, enjoy the best the holiday season has to offer....Greetings to you and yours!!

Pink Saturday Fav Decorations!!

by , in
~

Welcome to Pink Saturday friends!!

~

My gosh this week has just flown by,

snowstorm,

working,

commuting,

creating,

shopping,

add to that,

the fact that I am stuffed up, coughing,

and just barely existing in a fog !!

~

I cannot believe Christmas is just around the corner.

For our Pink Saturday challenge this week,

our Hostess with the Mostess,

would like us to share our favorite Christmas Decoration.

Please pop on over to Beverly's world

and see lots of Christmas Love

In my home it really does not completely

feel like Christmas until the tree is up

(we are getting it tomorrow)....since we have a real tree,

we cannot put it up too early because of the heat,

it dries up in no time,

regardless of how much you water it.

~

These are a few of the little characters

that fill the corners of our home

to let you know that Christmas is on the way

Love this How the Grinch Stole Christmas Lavalamp.

Instead of Lava it is filled with sparkles

and when you lower the lights,

it fills the room with glitter

The grin on this guy climbing

the toy mountain shows

that he really is up to something

Can you tell we love this movie!

When you push the red button,

his body dances

and he sings

'You're a mean one...Mr. Grinch'

I truly cannot remember

who in my family gave me this,

was it my sister in law or my sister, anyway,

I really like the tin heart and the painted LOVE

and the overall feel of the little wooden angel.

If you look closely you can see

my daughter on Santa's knee about 16 years ago,

the other photo is my son taken many years ago as well.

Our little countdown

Snowman in the front entryway..

..taken yesterday...

...now it's only 13 days....whoohoo!!!

~~

Thank you for visiting today.

..be safe..have fun this weekend..

...doing whatever

brings you JOY at this time of year!!!!

Cardinal's are the perfect Christmas Bird

I purchased this adorable sleigh
about 25 years ago at a craft fair.
The wool blanket is much older than that
and comes out every Christmas!!

I've placed these sparkly red stars

on the stairwell banner,

our Christmas tree was adorned

with these when I was growing up!!

Welcome to Pink Saturday !

Welcome to Pink Saturday Friends !!
It is the 5th of December today
and we have yet to see any Snow
The outdoor lights are up and our home
is 'almost' completely decorated for the Holidays.
~
A little task for this week is to share a childhood holiday memory, I most vividly remember tons of food lovingly prepared by my Mother for her brood of 6 children and eventually 14 grandchildren as well as spouses, a full 'very busy and noisy' house for sure. Her home was always filled with the scents of homemade everything...wonderful baked goods from scratch, decorations, presents wrapped with tons of love and care. My Mom would always be up until the wee hours of the morning on Christmas Eve wrapping those last few gifts. She has passed this on to me, unbeknownst to her, as I have many many years been up until 4:00 am carefully wrapping (the procrastinator in me) before Santa arrives. Now that I think back, she really gave her heart and soul so that her children would enjoy not only Christmas, but each and every day of the year!!
Thanks Mom, we love you!!

~
So now, my thoughts have turned
to wrapping gifts for Christmas.
I love the pinks this year
and while browsing Flickr
came across these
lovely packages from 'Such Pretty Things'.

These vintage stamens are so pretty

when placed together as a bow

She has a tutorial to make these charming
Vintage Hostess Gifts...I know I sure would love
to recieve such a pretty present!!

~~
Please take some time today
our hostess for this
fabulous Pink Saturday Party
to renew your love of Pink.
~
Have a great weekend!!

Hey there friends, Happy Thursday!!
~
I just linked up with Scrappy Jessi for
Hop on over and get all of your
Holiday baking done with these scrumptious recipes

~
I thought I would share these Yummy
(not to mention pretty) edibles!!
For those of you that know me,
know that I adore White Chocolate.
What could be better than
Cherries and White Chocolate

White-Chocolate Cherry Shortbread

Prep: 40 min.
Bake: 10 min. per batch
Stand: 30 min.

They are well worth the time and effort.

Simply beautiful and scrumptous!!

We love these!!

Ingredients
1/2 cup maraschino cherries, drained and finely chopped
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup cold butter
12 ounces white chocolate baking squares with cocoa butter, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 drops red food coloring (optional)
2 teaspoons shortening
White nonpareils and/or red edible glitter (optional)

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Spread cherries on paper towels to drain well.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour and sugar. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in drained cherries and 4 ounces (2/3 cup) of the chopped chocolate. Stir in almond extract and, if desired, food coloring. Knead mixture until it forms a smooth ball.

3. Shape dough into 3/4-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Using the bottom of a drinking glass dipped in sugar, flatten balls to 1-1/2-inch rounds.

4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until centers are set. Cool for 1 minute on cookie sheet. Transfer cookies to a wire rack and let cool.

5. In a small saucepan, combine remaining 8 ounces white chocolate and the shortening. Cook and stir over low heat until melted. Dip half of each cookie into chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. If desired, roll dipped edge in nonpareils and/or edible glitter. Place cookies on waxed paper until chocolate is set. Makes about 60.

6. To Store: Layer cookies between waxed paper in an airtight container; cover. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

our hostess Joan at 'anything goes here'.

nevermind one full of nostalgia.
Please visit the sidebar of Joan's world

These absolutely gorgeous
Vintage Christmas ornaments
were in my husband's family
for as long as he can remember.

I love the simple graphics on the boxes

This poor box has seen better days

Because of my bad camera you cannot
see the detail and all of the
gorgeous glitter on the white spaces

Can't wait to get our tree, because we use a real tree,

it will be about 2 more weeks, so I can finally use these beauties

These two are my favorite.

The patina on the pretty pink heart melts mine.

The long shape of the red ornament

is so pretty with the sparkle!

Thanks for stopping by!!
Have a fantastic week friends!!
